iKon X3 Slant Razor with OSS Handle
The long anticipated iKon X3 Slant is finally here. Paired with the 92mm OSS handle, this razor is ideal for those with a tough beard and sensitive skin.
Many reviews on popular forums seem to perpetuate the myth that slant style razors are difficult to master at the least. This is the 3rd X3 I have purchased, the first being for myself and the last two as gifts. Yes two more as gifts. This razor is my goto daily driver. Three words sum it up; Smooth, efficient, dependable.I own 30+ safety rigs and a 1/2 dozen straights and thie X3 is a guaranteed two pass no nicks or burns razor. I load it with a Rapira..no problem, Feather...no problem, you name the blade and no problem. In a hurry? You guessed it no problem. Do not be afraid to add this slant to your collection or try it as a first razor. The “Gillette Glide” is built in! The price point cannot be beat for this razor, it is well made, cleans up well and does not show water stains.
If you're seeking a slant razor I highly recommend you try the iKon X3 slant with OSS handle. The X3 offers a mild, comfortable shave at an affordable price. Complement this with the OSS handle which has great weight and excellent knurling that is a trademark of iKon razors. Topped off by Bullgooseshaving's excellent customer service and prompt postage, why would you buy from anywhere else?
I received the razor as a gift a few years ago.
I have an averge to heavy beard that is likely not as thick as it was when I was younger. Nevertheless, I still prefer to be cleanly and closely shavenand normally complete three full passes when shaving.
In almost 60 plus years of shaving the X3 slant razor is one of the best razors I have owned. When used with a Feather Blade the razor glides effortlessly over the skin and removes whiskers without chafing or irritation. the angle of the blade can prevent close shaving under the nostrils and some might find that an easy solution is using on of the cartridges that have a built in blade trimmer. I have not found the learning curve to be at all difficult. The quality of the shave with both sides of the razor are, to me, identical. With this razor I use either Osma or Ziegen Bart soap and find both provide ample protection and allow easy glide of the blade. As an aside, these soaps are very cost effective and contrary to the comments of others are not difficult to use.
To my mind there is little need to consider a more costly or esoteric alternative to the X3. Purchase this razor from Bull Goose and don't look back. It might well be that you will never find the need to use another razor in your rotation.
I have a stiff beard and like a very aggressive shave (mergress turned out past 5). This razor won't get as close as a progress / mergress with a huge gap but does a really nice job at knocking down 3 day stubble. What I like most is that when I'm rushed, I can shave very quickly/carelessly with this razor, get a reasonably close shave and not cut myself. Haven't cut myself yet with the Polsilver blades. It definitely has it's place in the rotation and if you don't need a very aggressive razor - this could be the all around razor for you. Great build quality: deeply knurled handle and cool satin finish on the head.
Have had this razor for a few weeks. Has nice solid feel and weight. Find I can get close shave with 2 pass method without irritation (using PolSilver super iridium blades). Not super aggressive razor. Very pleased.
I've been DE shaving for about six months and it's been great for my face. However, my lower neck still gets quite irritated from time to time. I've had my eye on a slant razor for a while now and decided to give the X3 a try as an early Christmas present to myself. Wow! Using virtually no pressure at all my neck is clean shaven with no irritation at all. I can't wait for warmer weather when I shave the beard and can use the X3 on my entire face. So far I've only used PolSilver blades in the X3 and they've been great. This razor has brought me as close to a baby bottom smooth shave as I've ever had, including straight razor shaves I've had from professional barbers.
I have a very thick and coarse beard and have been using a DE razor for about 10years. I started off with a Merkur HD and stuck with the same razor for 10 years. Well the old Merkur was a little worse for wear and it was time to replace. All I can say is wow! I drag this over my face and could not tell it was even cutting other than the whiskers were obviously gone! Beautiful razor, great shave and great value!.
I bought this because it was reviewed as a mild razor perfect for sensitive skin. This fit my situation as I have a tough beard but sensitive skin. Be very careful as this razor is unforgiving. Keep your strokes short and pay attention to the motion of the razor pass. I would not use a feather blade in this razor for my sensitive skin. I finally got a good shave after about 5 shaves. I have found that the plosives seems to be a good match for this razor. Don't get me wrong, it is a good razor. Quality is excellent and bullgoose was great. I also have the Shavecraft 102 slant and this is truly a mild shaver. I can often do one pass and the beard is acceptable for work. Because of my rough beard I usually change the blade after 3-4 shaves to keep from getting razor burn. Feather blades work well for me in the 102 slant.
