La Savonniere du Moulin Donkey Milk Shaving Soap (100g)
La Savonniere du Moulin Shaving Soap (SdM) is a French made shaving soap that has been receiving superlative reviews. Containing 30% Donkey Milk, this shave soap performs like a champ and provides the user with world class skin care. The scent is a subtle cologne scent that reminds me a bit of the vintage Woods of Windsor shaving soap. A must have for any wet shaving aficionado.

Pleasantly scented but it really shines when it’s time to put it to work. This has excellent cushion and the skin conditioning properties are superb. I’ll buy this again!
This soap surprised me a bit and maybe it shouldn't have. A little goes a long way and builds a thick, rich, creamy lather that I really liked. I carved out an amount about the size of a small pea - a little less than I use with softer soaps. I have kind of sensitive skin and a tough beard. I've been using Baum.be for a while and wanted to find something else to use to alternate with it. This lubricated my skin very well, better than most/all I've used, and did not leave my skin feeling dry afterwards. It's got a really nice scent as well. It's a little harder than other non-puck soaps I've used so it needs a little more time to bloom in the scuttle but that time is really worth it. This is now my favorite shave soap.
I've only shaved with this soap a handful of times, but I absolutely love it. It lathers easily, smells great and has plenty of slickness and cushion. I would say it's one of the best performing soaps I've tried and I highly recommend it. I think the only negative for me is the packaging. The container looks unique, but it's truly too flimsy to use and I immediately transferred the soap to a nice but inexpensive plastic container.
It is always nice to buy something from Bullgoose Shaving because of the prompt shipping that occurs.
I bought La Savonnire du Moulin out of curiosity and the great reviews this soap has received from various sites. I was prepared for the packaging which has some people surprised. It is made of thin strips of a light wood with a sponge at the base. The packaging incl sponge helps the soap dry between uses. I transferred it to an empty soap container so I could lather out it rather than always transferring if to a shave bowl. That out of the way let me say this soap has gone straight into my top 5 ( I have over 60 soaps/creams). As a comparison it reminds me very much of Martin de Candre without the price tag. In particular, it reminds me of the unscented version of MdC as both have a very pleasant light flower/lavender like scent. My purchase was the original scent now only made for Bullgoose.. The soap produced more lather than any of my other soaps using the same methods I use and produced a very thick, slick and cushiony (is that a word) lather that I have used for both D/E and S/E razors. Great face feel....it almost feels like it is doing my skin some good......maybe the donkey milk?? I'm now a fan and only wish I had bought two pucks! Do yourself a favour and get some!
