The Asylum 17-4 Razor -Coming Soon

Phil Huntsinger

If the upcoming Asylum 17-4 razor bears a strong resemblance to the Paradigm 17-4 razor, there is a reason for it. Back in November of 2018, I paid nearly $10,000 for a batch of Paradigm 17-4 razors that were supposed to be delivered by January of 2019. Now, nearly two years later, I am still out the money and, I have not received any razors. Over the course of this time, Paradigm has acted erratically. They promised the razors, they taunted and dared me to try suing, they tried extorting more money for the razors, they promised a batch of titanium razors instead and they promised to pay me back in an installment program. Rather than follow through with any of these promises, they instead used my funds to produce razors for a competitor.

In the normal course of events, I would have received the razors, they would have been sold and the profit from the sale would have been invested in another project. Rinse, wash and repeat.  You know -the old concept of compound interest that you learned about in junior high.

In order to recoup my losses, I have decided to produce a 17-4 razor myself. The picture is of a plastic prototype but the production model will be machined out of 17-4 stainless steel and polished to a high polish. We should have the 17-4 stainless steel prototypes next week and the production models should be here by the holidays.

Would the Rocnel 2020 Sailor S be coming to your store?

@SteveG We may release an anodized aluminum razor down the line but, it would be a different design. We are also planning to release a titanium razor in the future.

If money were no object, I’d like to see it included with a Stork ‘Consul’ handle. Yet, machining such a handle affordably in 17-4 stainless steel is unrealistic. Any possibility of releasing this in a more affordable aluminum variety?

@ John Andreas -Thank you. Pricing should be in that range and, it will not exceed $230.00.

Phil, that is awesome. I’ve wanted this one. Will pricing be similar $230 range or has that not been decided yet?
