Asylum English Creams -Scent & Performance Descriptions

Phil Huntsinger

The Asylum English Shaving creams arrived about a week ago and we have been peppered with questions regarding ingredient lists, scent descriptions, performance and manufacturer. I'll do my best to answer the first three questions but due to non-disclosure agreements, cannot directly answer the last question.

There are currently five different scents of Asylum English Shaving cream all with slightly different ingredient lists. They are all soft creams similar in texture to Geo Trumper creams and, they all have great performance. These creams would be a great choice for straight razor shavers due to their incredible slickness and, they would be a great choice for new wet shavers due to the ease in which they lather.  Whether you have hard water or soft water, Asylum English creams will gin up a nice creamy lather in no time.

Let's discuss the creams one at a time:

Asylum Charcoal Shaving Cream: This cream has a little added charcoal that helps to remove dirt and toxins from the skin as you shave. It does not smell like charcoal at all but, the charcoal does tint the cream to a medium gray color. Don't worry though, the lather produced is white and it will not stain your brush.

Scent Description: The woody heart of this fragrance is a blend of strong cedarwood and sea bleached sandalwood, livened with fruity floral notes and a hint of coffee. Creamy vanilla and patchouli warm from the base, balanced with sugary accords and musks.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut Fatty Acid, Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Alpha Iso-Methyl Ionone.

Asylum European Barbershop This cream, like all but the Charcoal cream, is white.

Asylum Bergamot:a refreshing combination of bergamot and amber with complementing notes of cooling eucalyptus, patchouli and clove.

Asylum Bay Rum This is a modern take on Bay Rum. Rather than having a single note, this incorporates Bay Rum into a more complex scent. Top notes of cinnamon and nutmeg intermingle with zesty citrus. White lily and basil leaves join rose petals and refreshing geranium to embrace the herbaceous accord. Patchouli and Bay rum mixed with hints of vanilla are perfect finishing accents to this masculine creation

Ingredient List: Aqua (Water), Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut Fatty Acid, Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Triethanolamine, Sodium
Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl
Salicylate, Coumarin, Eugenol, Limonene, Linalool, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-
Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde.

Asylum Aloe This is perfect for those with sensitive skin. The natural fragrance from the Aloe Vera Leaf Juice (ALOE BARBADENSIS) is complemented by a subtle fragrance cocktail bursting to life with sour lemon and neroli, lifted with lime blossom and petitgrain whilst warmed with petitgrain, all resting on soft powdery musks.

Ingredient List: Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Stearic Acid,
Myristic Acid,Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut Fatty Acid,
Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance),Triethanolamine, Sodium
Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Butylphenyl
Methylpropional, Citral, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene,
Linalool.

In terms of the manufacturer all we can disclose is that the shaving creams are made in England and that at least one of the major English brands uses the same manufacturer.

Be sure to pick up a tub or two today. At $17.00 for a large 6 ounce tub of excellent cream, this is a great deal.

Thanks for the info, Phil. It helps me to make an informed decision about which version(s) I might like best.
